Holistic psychology brings an important focus to the counselling process. Many forms of psychology focus just on the thinking mind, but we are far more than the thoughts in our mind. We have an emotional life and a soul life and we live in a physical body. We need to learn how to connect with and manage each of these aspects of our being if we are to experience well being and satisfaction. Holistic psychology takes all of these aspects of our life into consideration.

We work together to evoke authentic, embodied experience that supports connections between mind and body, thoughts and feelings, memories and current life events. We use techniques from energy psychology and body centred psychotherapies to support the processing of memories and past experiences that require attention. This ensures that the process is not overwhelming, and that change and healing occur appropriately for you as a unique individual.

My focus is on YOU as an individual, and my holistic guidance is here to help you approach emotions, thoughts and energies that can have you feeling burdened – like anxiety, guilt, anger, depression, shame and loss. No one technique is universally appropriate and your experiences are unique, so together we focus on using the most appropriate tools for your specific needs. Integrating aspects of yourself that may have been split off and strengthening your relationship with your authentic self is a clear focus. Inner material that emerges through exploring your subconscious can further be honoured through drawings, journaling, or movement. Working within the framework, which focuses on relationship, mindfulness, attention, lived experience, and meaning.

This journey is about you, and I will always be guided by your needs, desires, inner process and the speed at which you want and need to progress. You create your healing – my job is to be your guide, mentor, supporter and fellow traveller.

Hart Yoga has been designed by myself, which includes a specific focus towards the techniques of yoga i.e. postures (asana), breath (pranayama), and sound (mantras) that work toward a specific outcome (kriya), and doing all of this whilst staying connected to one’s heart thus activating the God-like spirit within us.

The unity of body, mind, heart and spirit that all human beings long for can be most powerfully achieved through the fusion of simple yoga asanas/kriyas and simple spiritual practices, which give access to a profound way of staying awake, passionate, and grounded.

If you like your physical exercise to come with a side of spiritual awakening, Hart Yoga may well be for you. The primary objective (of Hart Yoga) is to awaken the awareness in each individual; that is, recognise our awareness, refine that awareness, and expand that awareness to our unlimited Self & other.

Awakening Meditation

Meditation is an age-old art-form of deep awareness and enquiry into how we live – behaviours, beliefs, patterns, fears, pleasures that give birth to one self-image. When you give time to deep enquiry one develops a capacity that enables freedom from the illusionary constraints and open you to experience a greater capacity of focus, clarity, self-knowledge, well being, presence and open-heartedness – enlightened way of living.

I personal advocate meditation in the Mahasi tradition – the simultaneous development of mental tranquillity and insight. The mind is calmed with the traditional practice of Anapanasati which includes four steps: observation of the body (kaya), of feeling (vedana), the mind (citta) and the insight into the highest wisdom (dhamma) plus the contemplation of the 32 body parts.

Through this practice three levels of samadhi are distinguished. Khanika samadhi, or momentary concentration, the mind (citta) is only calmed for a short time. Upacara samadhi, approach concentration lasts longer and in Appana samadhi, jhana (absorption) is attained. When sufficient concentration has been established, the three characteristics impermanence, suffering and non-self are contemplated, the five khandha (five groups of clinging – form, sensation, perception, mental formation, consciousness) are seen through then ignorance is extinguished, which can stimulate kundalini awakening.
